James Wright Shupe along with bro Andrew Jackson Shupe were both with the Mormon Battalion, marched over 2,000 miles to California to defend the US in the war with Mexico. This is conceded to be the longest infantry march in history. Their names are on a monument in Salt Lake City, Utah, which is dedicated to the Mormon's Battalion.
